Marie José Burki / Un Chien sur la route, au passage du promeneur

March 11 28 May 2017

The CRP/ presents Un chien sur la route, au passage du promeneur, a solo exhibition by artist Marie José Burki, opening March 11, 2017. The exhibition juxtaposes two sets of photographs produced in 2012 and 2016 respectively: AOS and Untitled, with other images including selections from the 2016 series Ici et là, and the video installation Un chien sur la route, 2017, which lends its name to the exhibition coproduced by the CRP/. This installation, consisting of three videos, is being presented for the first time at the art center.

Marie José Burki’s artistic practice consists in combining mediums, their specificities, and testing them through a variety of visual approaches; the artist grasps the world by comparing it with the proliferation of images it circulates (advertisement, media) and the questions it provokes. What is left of reality through the veil of pictures circulated by social networks and the media? How can we resist the stereotypes and standardization that these are constantly generating?

Through her unique, precise photographic and filmic compositions, Marie José Burki questions the notions of time, subject and perception, and ponders the modalities of representation.
